John Reich Journal
Volume 10/Issue 2           April 1996          Whole 30

The John Reich Journal is the official publication of the Society and is distributed to all members in good standing. Members are encouraged to submit any articles encouraging the study of numismatics and/or relating to early United States gold and silver coins to the editors. Especially needed are articles containing new information about die varieties, die states of published die varieties, attribution methods, collections, collectors, etc.

Welcome to the JRCS Web Page, we're glad you found us. We will be updating this page with the issuance of each new John Reich Journal. The current issue, volume 10/issue 2, April 1996 is full of informative articles on our favorite series of coins. A review of each follows:

  • George Polizio has authored a wonderful thought provoking quiz on Bust Quarters. Test your knowledge of this often overlooked early American series of coins.
  • One of our more prolific writers, W. David Perkins, has written another Bust Dollar article on the recently discovered 1795 B19.
  • Q. David Bowers then reviews some of the silver coins from the Eliasberg collection.
  • Next, Mike Marker tells us about the die states of the 1818 O104 Bust Half Dollar. This study is the culmination of many years of observations by Mike.
  • Another of our regular authors, Philip J. Evans, delves into the pricing of Capped Bust Half Dollars. He cites the current price guides available to determine the values of your halves.
  • This is followed by Jeffrey A. Prem s article- Unit Value: New Applications for an Old Idea, another article on pricing Capped Bust Halves.
  • Don Parsley, editor of the Third Edition Overton Half Dollar book, tells us more about the new Draped Bust Half Dollar variety- 1806 O128 which is featured as the cover photo on the current Journal. He reviews the diagnostics used to identify this variety.
  • W. David Perkins follows with his second article of this Journal speculating whether a 1795 B18 dollar once owned by Clapp will be in th the Journal. We request collectors to send their inventories to us so that they may be included in the study.
We hope that if you are not currently a member that you will consider joining for the mere price. You will receive The John Reich Journal as issued as well as be invited to join us at the Denver ANA for our annual meeting. There will also be an educational talk during the meeting as well as time to meet other collectors that share an interest in the Bust coinages.

Happy Collecting!
